Monte Vista's ASB (Associated Student Body) is composed of 9-12th grade students who strive to improve Monte Vista's spirit and enhance school culture. Academic League is a quiz bowl competition between all of the schools in the Grossmont Union High School District. The questions are based off of the California State standards and include categories such as fine arts, math, language arts, history, science, government, economics, and current events. Players' knowledge and teamwork skills play a key role in the team's success. The season starts in November and ends in February.

Monte Vista currently has a Junior Varsity and Varsity Cheer Club. The primary focus of Monte Vista Cheer Club is to support and promote school spirit. Monte Vista cheer encourages school spirit, promotes good school morale and crowd sportsmanship, and supports interscholastic athletics

 

 

 

 

 

Monte Vista Choir is dedicated to the improvement of the solo voice through a unique blend of Gospel, R&B, Broadway, and classical technique. Our choir sings at local nursing homes, libraries, and community organizations as part of our community outreach, as well as competing in show choir festivals throughout southern California. We are a Silver and Gold-Awarded choir at the nationally accredited Heritage Festival, an Adjudicator award winner for favorite choir, a three time Merit Award winner for best soloists and performers, a So-Cal Invitational Show Choir festival Award winner for Audience favorite, and a two time Best Soloist Award winner. We are proud to have a unique voice in the community and we are dedicated to the idea that music and creative expression is for everyone.

 

 

 

 

 

The Monarch Royal Brigade is our Band, Color guard, and Drumline program. No experience is required! All groups perform year-round and work with college-level and professional musicians. Students will develop skills that will stay with them after High School. The Royal Brigade offers an accepting environment and develops bonds crucial for navigating High School.

 

 

 

 

Yearbook is an elective course that gives students marketable experience in print media publishing. It works toward the completion and selling of a finished product--Monte Vista's yearbook. Students compose, construct, and edit all elements of computerized text, layout, graphic art, and digital photography. Students must be cooperative, industrious, productive, and creative. After school, students will be expected to "shoot" photos, conduct interviews, sell and design advertising, and distribute yearbooks.

Monte Vista's Theatre Department offers three different class options: Theatre, Technical Theatre, and Advanced Performance Theatre. Theatre introduces students to all aspects of the stage - acting, directing, and designing. Technical Theatre builds sets for the mainstage productions. Advanced Performance Theatre is a fully-functioning, semi-professional theatre company housed at Monte Vista High School. Students perform in the Fall and Spring shows and run all parts of the company from acting to technical roles.
