The questions are based off of the California State standards and include categories such as fine arts, math, language arts, history, science, government, economics, and current events. Band/Color Guard

The Monarch Royal Brigade is our Band, Color Guard, and Drumline program. No experience is required! All groups perform year-round and work with college-level and professional musicians. Students within the program perform and compete at: band competitions, football games, and basketball games.

Students will develop skills that will stay with them after High School. The Royal Brigade offers an accepting environment and develops bonds crucial for navigating High School. While it is a class, during the acadmic school day, the program does offer ways for select students to be involved with after school practices as well.

Cheer

Cheer at Monte Vista is one of its biggest and most successful programs, earning themselves a CIF Banner in 2025. Cheer competes at Varsity and Junior Varsity levels. The program itself focuses on supporting and promoting school spirit, doing so while cheering at athletic events, competing at the CIF Cheer competition, and participating in the Grossmont Cheer District Showcase in January.

The program represents the Monte Vista Monarchs of Spring Valley. It runs as a traditional sideline and Stomp & Shake team running through the Fall and Winter Seasons. The program is co-ed and fosters an inclusive environment open to students at Monte Vista. Please see the Cheer Instagram for all updates and announcements, including tryout and performance information.

E-Sports

E-Sports is a recent addition to Monte Vista taking place in the Winter Season. Using Monte Vista's new state-of-the-art gaming space in Room 603, including multiple high-performance gaming PCs, Monarchs compete in a variety of games including: League of Legends, Rocket League, Madden NFL 25, and Marvel Rivals.

The season culminates with a CIF Final competition against schools from across the country. For all interested students who want to be part of one of the fastest growing competition fields in the world, please contact the team advisors!

Yearbook

Yearbook is an elective course that gives students marketable experience in print media publishing. It works toward the completion and selling of a finished product--Monte Vista's yearbook. Students compose, construct, and edit all elements of computerized text, layout, graphic art, and digital photography. Students must be cooperative, industrious, productive, and creative. After school, students will be expected to "shoot" photos, conduct interviews, sell and design advertising, and distribute yearbooks.
