Social Science at Monte Vista

Social Science at Monte Vista aims to enrich the understanding of students in regards to how they interact with the social world around them. This includes a strong foundation in the historical contexts that lead to the present day, as well as exposure to, and an understanding of, different cultures. The Social Science Department is unique in Monte Vista in that all of its "Advanced" offerings (typcially A.P. or Honors) are Dual Enrollment options through a partnership with Cuyamaca College. The courses are listed below:

11th - U.S. History
12th - Economics and Government
9th - ES 107 (Ethnic Studies)
10th - HIST 100/101 (World History)
11th - HIST 108/109 (U.S. History)
12th* - POLI 121 (American Government and Political Science) and ECON 120 (Economics)  OR AP Economics**
*The Dual Enrollment 12th Grade Classes are 1 semester each
**AP Economics is the only AP Course offered by the Department as of the 2025-2026 school year.
 
All Monte Vista English classes fulfill A-G requirements for students to be eligible to apply to UC (University of California) and CSU (California State University) schools.
 
Students are required to pass 40 credits (4 years) of Social Science classes to graduate.
