Science at Monte Vista

Science is the collective understanding of the physical world. The Monte Vista Science Department is composed of teachers from a variety of disciplines all aiming to provide real-world NGSS (Next-Generation Science Standards) understanding for all students, so they can take that skillset into their day to day lives. The backgrounds of the faculty include time in cancer research, physics labs, ecological studies, the U.S. Navy, aviation, and even a former UC San Diego Professor!

The Science Deparment strongly encourges all Monte Vista students to take three years of science to be college and career ready. This primarily should follow the three-course model (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics), with several elective courses to help enrich the educational experience. All classes fulfill A-G requirements for students to be eligible to apply to UC (University of California) and CSU (California State University) schools.

Students are required to pass 20 credits (2 years) of Science classes at a minimum to graduate. This involves 10 credits of Life Science (Biology) and 10 creadits of Physical Science (Chemistry and/or Physics).
