About the Sport Medicine Pathway

Sport Medicine is a Career Technical Education (CTE) class intended to prepare students with the skillsets and knowhow necessary to integrate into potential careers in sports medicine, physical training, and athletics. It is a two-class pathway tht spans two years in any section of a student's high school career with the following classes:

CTE Sports Medicine 1 & 2
Introductions to Nutrition, Safety, First Aid, Human Anatomy, and Specific Injuries
CTE Sports Medicine 3 & 4
Human Growth and Development, Body Systems, Injury Prevention, Strength and Conditioning Training, and Therapeutic Modalities
 
 
This courses will introduce students to anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, injury
prevention and rehabilitation. As they navigate and preapre for careers, they are eligible and able to receive the following certifications:
  1. Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR (good for 2 years)
  2. Bloodborne Pathogens
  3. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Training
  4. OSHA-10
  5. Stop The Bleed
The course also comes with hands-on athletic training opportunities with the teacher, Mrs. Powell, who is also the school's athletic trainer. Students at the upper levels of the pathway can work as an assistant trainer during Monte Vista Athletic Competitions.
