AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a program originating in San Diego that supports students for College and Career Readiness by providing additional supports and direction at the high school level. At Monte Vista, AVID is an elective class that studens can enroll in within the school day to receive support in their academic classes and in career planning.
 
It provides students with a plethora of support including:
  • Weekly Tutorials with support from college tutors
  • Field trips and tours to colleges across the state of California (including opportunities through the College Road Trip)
  • Regular presentations from college and university programs to inform students about career options
  • Personal-based projects that allow students research and access to colle application
  • Fun Activities and community bonding events with fellow Monte Vista students
At Monte Vista, students enrolled in the AVID Program can stick with the same teacher who mentors and guides them through their high school journey.
