Academic LeagueAcademic league is a quiz bowl competition between all of the schools in the Grossmont Union High School District. The questions are based off of the California State standards and include categories such as fine arts, math, language arts, history, science, government, economics, and current events. Players' knowledge and teamwork skills play a key role in the team's success. The season starts in November and ends in February.
A.S.B.Monte Vista's ASB (Associated Student Body) is composed of 9-12th grade students who strive to improve Monte Vista's spirit and enhance school culture. Camp LEAD*Camp LEAD (Leadership for Equity & Access District-wide) allows students to take part in a free, 3-day, 2 night series of activities designed to foster leadership skills and improve understanding & respect between students. Through focused dialogue, experiential learning, and self reflection, students develop skills to discuss issues that can be difficult to address in everyday life. Monte Vista Choirs are dedicated to the improvement of the solo voice through a unique blend of Gospel, R&B, Broadway, and classical technique. Our choir sings at local nursing homes, libraries, and community organizations as part of our community outreach, as well as competing in show choir festivals throughout southern California. We are a Silver and Gold-Awarded choir at the nationally accredited Heritage Festival, an Adjudicator award winner for favorite choir, a three time Merit Award winner for best soloists and performers, a So-Cal Invitational Show Choir festival Award winner for Audience favorite, and a two time Best Soloist Award winner. We are proud to have a unique voice in the community and we are dedicated to the idea that music and creative expression is for everyone.

ClubsMonte Vista is a diverse school that offers a wide array of clubs for students with a broad range of interests. Clubs are a great way to get involved and meet new friends.
Dance CompanyDance Company is the advanced dance class on campus. It includes a variety of styles of movement, technique, and choreography with an emphasis on performance. Performances include The Winter Concert, Spring Dance Concert, assemblies, and pep rally's. We also attend the High School Day of Dance at Grossmont College where the dancers take a variety of master classes with other high school students and watch a portion of their fall dance concert. The Monarch Royal Brigade is our Band, Color guard, and Drumline program. No experience is required! All groups perform year-round and work with college-level and professional musicians. Students will develop skills that will stay with them after High School. The Royal Brigade offers an accepting environment and develops bonds crucial for navigating High School. Monarch TheatreMonte Vista's Theatre Department offers three different class options: Theatre, Technical Theatre, and Advanced Performance Theatre. Theatre introduces students to all aspects of the stage - acting, directing, and designing. Technical Theatre builds sets for the mainstage productions. Advanced Performance Theatre is a fully-functioning, semi-professional theatre company housed at Monte Vista High School. YearbookYearbook is an elective course that gives students marketable experience in print media publishing. It works toward the completion and selling of a finished product--Monte Vista's yearbook. Students compose, construct, and edit all elements of computerized text, layout, graphic art, and digital photography. Students must be cooperative, industrious, productive, and creative. After school, students will be expected to "shoot" photos, conduct interviews, sell and design advertising, and distribute yearbooks.
